ABSCHIED………. (in German)
und nehmen meine Jugendzeit
mit sich dahin – ich bleib zurueck.
Im Sinn verwirrt,
ich fuehle kalt -
jetzt bin ich alt!
Wie ich einst lebte, froh, erfuellt,
ich bleibe hier, verwirrt, enthuellt,
und sehe hilflos himmelwaerts.
Mein Herz so friert,
allein ich bleib,
im grossen Leid.
Wenn wohl mein Leben dann vorbei,
erschoepft und muede alles sei,
schliess’ ich mich den Wolken an.
Sie ziehen ewig fort
und mit frohen Sinnen
reise ich von hinnen!

MESSAGE ON A TOMBSTONE
O FRIEND FROM LONG AGO
I’VE LIVED A LIFE AWAY FROM YOU
IN HOMESICKNESS AND WOE.
I’VE BEEN WITH YOU, SO FAR AWAY,
IN THOUGHTS, SO FULL OF PAIN
AND IN MY DREAMS I HEARD YOU SAY
‘DON’T LIVE YOUR LIFE IN VAIN.’
TIME WILL COME, MY DEAREST FRIEND,
WHO CAME ACROSS THE SEA
WHEN FINALLY WE’LL MEET AGAIN
IN ETERNAL COMPANY!

WITH DAYS SO DREADFUL….
there appear in my mind the days of yore,
when young and with optimism brimming
I skipped through life with cheery singing.
Achieved distinctions through study intense,
mastered exams with dedicated sense,
respected by people who saw me succeed,
there were no limits, for that was my creed.
From a certain age on they look at you diff’rent
‘You have no hope!’ is the message they sent.
‘It is hopeless for you, you shouldn’t strife
‘cause others want your position in life!
But this will not happen, despite them,
And other’s low motives that drive them.
There are many more goals to achieve,
But first I will keep my depression brief.
With writing, drawing and teaching the learners,
Engaging in office work for earnings,
I am constantly improving my life,
And enjoy the rewards for all my strife.

A DEAR LITTLE MOTHER HAS GONE AWAY.....
A dear little mother has gone away
And left this life forever.
Her children sit around the bed
Despairing and in clamour.
Her kindly voice, comfort in sorrow
Will never be heard again!
Whom will they turn to when in need?
Yet all their prayers are in vain.
Who’d waited for her, close to Him.
Where good souls gather and rejoice,
And angels sound a hymn!

A LITTLE BOY STANDS WONDERING .....

A little boy stands wondering
And looks around amazed
The world is colourful and wide
He takes all in unfazed.
As long his parents lovingly
Are by his side protecting
And guiding him to adulthood
Without in care neglecting.
One day he will be all alone
A ‘grown-up’ as they say,
Strong and virile and determined
And in a daily fray.

ODE TO JADE (My granddaughter)

I love a girl, small and fine,
with jet black hair and eyes that shine,
and lips so sweet and teeth so white,
her smile is brilliant day and night.
Her skin is brown, her body lissome,
hands are nimble, her toes are kiss-some,
her body is to squeeze and sigh
and cuddly, if she lets you nigh.
And when she walks, with tiny feet
in fashion sandals down the street,
and hips that wiggle to and fro,
To ev’ry boy she smiles ‘hello!’
What is your name? that darling asks,
starting friendships that do not last.
It doesn’t matter they all are welcome
whether ugly, fat or handsome.
Meeting dogs is her delight,
They jump at her with all their might,
And love her too and lick her face
with wagging tails in quickest pace.
She loves her ice cream, cone or stick,
a cheeky tongue goes lick, lick, lick,
a ‘mmm’ is heard and what a sight,
her face and fingers need a wipe.
And her proud daddy, when around,
serves as her fav’rite playing ground.
Climbs round on him for a long time,
gets kissed and tickled all the time.
When music sounds aloud and rhythmic
she cannot help it, she is with it,
with stomping feet and swaying hips
and cheery laughter from her lips.
When she visits her grandparents,
Her love for them becomes apparent.
She kisses, cuddles and many a word,
loving, caring, are then heard.
At Christmas time, the best of seasons,
she loves her presents with good reason,
unwrapping them with Christmas cheer,
as she was good throughout the year!
A year has gone and what a sight –
She’s taller now, more adult-like.
What will the future hold for Jadey?
God bless you my little baby!
